ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s President, Dr. Arif Alvi, is preparing to embark on a visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj at his personal expense. However, behind the scenes, the ruling parties have ulterior motives to exploit this occasion for their own vested interests.
Reliable sources have revealed that the coalition government intends to introduce legislation to provide legal cover to the caretaker governments in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which have already completed their constitutional term of ninety days. The proposed legislation, as per sources, would not only extend their tenures but could potentially grant them additional powers.
Critics argue that such changes could compromise the impartiality and neutrality of caretaker governments, which traditionally act as neutral custodians to ensure free and fair elections. They contend that the amendments in the law would allow the PDM government to exert greater influence and manipulate the electoral process to their advantage, potentially undermining democratic principles.
Government Likely to Delay General Elections
Furthermore, sources indicate that the coalition government may also introduce legislation during this period to delay the general elections. The PML-N, in particular, is desperate to postpone the elections, as they believe it would only bring embarrassment in light of the current price hikes and the challenges faced by the people. However, it is unclear whether the PPP is in agreement on this matter.
It is worth mentioning that President Dr. Arif Alvi has previously resisted controversial legislation presented to him. However, during his Hajj journey, when Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani assumes the role of Acting President, the PDM government is likely to pass any bills without obstacles.
Sources suggest that if the government proceeds with these hidden agendas, it will only contribute to further political uncertainty, which will have adverse effects on the economy.
