ISLAMABAD: According to sources, the federal government has initiated the implementation of conditions to satisfy the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Notably, it has been disclosed that electricity consumers will bear the brunt of this arrangement, with an estimated collection of Rs2116 billion earmarked for capacity charges in the upcoming fiscal year.

The breakdown reveals that the base price of electricity per unit has been established at Rs27.66. This comprises Rs9.69 for electricity pricing and a substantial Rs17.66 designated for capacity charges per unit. Consequently, a significant sum of Rs3277 billion is projected to be collected from electricity consumers over the course of the next fiscal year.

It is understood that, in adherence to IMF stipulations, a substantial portion of this amount, totaling Rs1116 billion, will be levied as electricity charges. The remaining Rs2116 billion is designated specifically for capacity charges, aligning with the conditions outlined by the IMF.

This move by the government underscores its commitment to meeting the requirements set forth by the IMF, albeit at the expense of electricity consumers who may face increased financial burdens in the forthcoming fiscal period.
