ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to limit the authority of the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
The cabinet committee for legislation has given nod for the amendments in the Higher Education Commission (HEC) laws. According to the proposed amendments, the status of the federal minister will be taken back from the Higher Education Commission (HEC) chairman.

The laws of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) will be approved by the ministry of education and the government will appoint the executive director of the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
The amendments would be presented before the federal cabinet for final approval, as per the sources.

On December 4, the Higher Education Commission invited innovative start-ups owned by students, faculty members, alumni, or researchers from private or public universities for applying for the Innovator Seed Fund (ISF) Grant.
In a statement, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) noted that Innovator Seed Fund (ISF) Grant – envisioned for the development of innovation and start-up ecosystem in Pakistan – is a very important initiative of the commission under the Higher Education Development in Pakistan Project (HEDP).
