ISLAMABAD: The government on Saturday appointed Lt Gen (retd) Nazir Ahmed as new chairman of Pakistan’s National Accountability Bureau (NAB). Pakistan’s Prime Minister House issued a notification about the appointment of new chairman NAB.
Government appoints chairman NAB
The notification stated that consultation between the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly has been held and there was a consensus on the name of Lt. Gen (Retd.) Nazir Ahmad, for his appointment by the government as Chairman, NAB.
The office of the NAB chairman became vacant on Feb, 15 following the acceptance of the resignation of Aftab Sultan, the notification added.

It maintained that following “detailed deliberations”, both sides agreed over the appointment of Lt Gen (retd) Ahmad as chairman NAB.
According to the ministry of law, the NAB chairman shall hold post for a “non-extendable term of 3 years”.
The notification added that it is also impossible to remove the NAB chairman from office except on the grounds as defined in Article 209 of the Constitution of Pakistan.
