Government Advancing Agenda to Digitize Economy: PM Shehbaz

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said the government is pursuing the agenda of digitising the economy, rightsising of public institutions, and merit-based appointment of experts in public sector organisations.

He was chairing a meeting on the progress of the Public-Private Partnership Authority regarding the appointment of technical experts in federal ministries and departments and the strategy for foreign investment, Radio Pakistan reported on Friday.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed that institutional reforms remain one of the government’s top priorities, stressing that there will be no compromise on merit and transparency in the appointment of experts.

He received a detailed briefing from the Public-Private Partnership Authority regarding the ongoing recruitment of technical professionals. It was reported that 15 technical experts have already been appointed, with the recruitment process underway for an additional 47 positions.

It was informed that federal ministries have nominated focal teams to develop investment-related strategies. Sector-specific roadmaps have been prepared for key areas, including Information Technology and Telecom, Railways, and Tourism.

Sectoral frameworks for investment in Food Security, Maritime Affairs, Minerals, Tourism, Industry, Housing, and Energy are in final stages of development.

Pitch books for eighteen economic sectors have been prepared for assigning investment projects to Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Azerbaijan, Qatar and Kuwait.
