PUERTO ORDAZ: Local officials said on Sunday that at least 12 miners were killed when a gold mine collapsed in southern Venezuela. Officials said that dead bodies were shifted to their families.

According to Reuters, the gold mine flooded due to heavy rains in the region. As per media reports, 112 people survived the gold mine collapse. Edgar Colina, the secretary for Citizen Security in Bolivar said that officials would return to the site on Sunday in order to check for other survivors. Advocacy groups have issued warnings about the area, with the United Nations (UN) last year reporting that human rights violations report in Venezuela’s mining areas.
