ISLAMABAD: The global Sikh community has strongly condemned the provocative statement made by India’s defence minister about Pakistan’s Sindh province, with Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) declaring full solidarity with Pakistan and rejecting New Delhi’s expansionist rhetoric.

Sikhs for Justice, the largest Sikh movement, in a statement on Thursday expressed solidarity with Pakistan, adding that the Sikhs refuse to back the dangerous expansionist policies of India.

The organisation said Sikh leaders have advised Sikh soldiers to join the Pakistan Army for the defence of Sindh province. The group also has demanded open recruitment of Sikhs into the Pakistan Army against India.

“Pakistan should open recruitment for Sikhs so they can join the Pakistan Army for the defence of Sindh,” Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, the head of Sikhs for Justice, said.

Sikhs for Justice requested that a special list of Sikh volunteers and a dedicated Sikh defence unit be created, adding that this Sikh volunteer unit should be deployed specifically for the defence of Sindh.

It said that as soon as Pakistan issues the enrolment protocol, thousands of Sikh volunteers around the world will be ready to join, said Sikhs for Justice.

“We hold a strong position based on UN international laws,” Sikhs for Justice stated. “Under international law, soldiers have the right to refuse participation in any war on the basis of conscience or moral grounds,” Sikhs for Justice added.

The group further stated the world is expressing full support for Pakistan’s strong position and its stand against Indian aggression.

On Sunday, Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh claimed that, although Sindh is not part of India today, it remains linked to India’s “civilizational heritage” and said, “Borders can change … Who knows, tomorrow Sindh may return to India again.” He cited cultural and historical ties, noting Sindhi Hindus never fully accepted Sindh’s separation in 1947 and referenced the spiritual importance of the Indus River.

Sindh Assembly adopts resolution

The Sindh Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution that the House “unequivocally condemns the Indian Defence Minister’s statement as delusional, inflammatory, and a deliberate distortion of history, made in violation of diplomatic norms and international law.”

The resolution, presented by Excise Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla, affirmed “with absolute clarity that Sindh is, and will always remain, an inseparable and integral part of Pakistan,” firmly rejecting any contrary claims, no matter how baseless.

Lawmakers also rejected “with full force all revisionist, expansionist, and politically motivated assertions from India that attempt to rewrite the history of Sindh, Pakistan, or the independence movement.”

The resolution further denounced the extremist policies of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, stating that such actions “threaten regional stability, erode civilisational heritage, weaponise water resources, and jeopardise the environmental security of millions.”

The resolution further urged the government to “pursue firm diplomatic, legal, and multilateral measures to safeguard the Indus River, protect Pakistan’s treaty rights, and hold India accountable for any violations of water, environmental, or humanitarian norms.”

It noted that New Delhi had unilaterally suspended the Indus Waters Treaty in April, citing unsubstantiated allegations related to the Pahalgam attack — claims that Islamabad strongly rejected.

Chief Minister denounces Rajnath Singh’s remarks

During the Sindh Assembly session, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah denounced Rajnath Singh’s remarks and urged the federal government to take the matter up at the international level.

“We demand from the Centre through this resolution that the Government of Pakistan raise this matter before the world,” he said.

“The Government of Pakistan should send this resolution to the world and tell them that India wants to occupy the Sindh River,” the chief minister added.

Murtaza Solangi, Spokesperson to the President of Pakistan, in a statement on X said the last 1000-year history of Sindh testifies to the fact that Sindh has never been part of imperial India or Bharat.

“The Sama, Soomra, Kalhora and Talpur dynasties had nothing to do with any Indian empire. When Sindh decided to be part of a bigger framework, it was for Pakistan. It was the Sindh Assembly, the first ever under British occupation, to pass the Pakistan resolution,” he stated.

“We Sindhis take pride in this historical fact. Only an ignorant RSS/BJP Parcharak like Rajnath Singh doesn’t know that, since he swims in the rare river of ignorance and arrogance,” he said.

Hindutva mindset

Pakistan’s foreign office strongly reacted to the statement, adding that such statements reveal an expansionist Hindutva mindset that seeks to challenge established realities and stands in clear violation of international law, the inviolability of recognised borders, and the sovereignty of states.

Pakistan urged Rajnath Singh and other Indian leaders to refrain from provocative rhetoric that threatens regional peace and stability. “It would be far more constructive for the Government of India to focus on ensuring the security of its own citizens, particularly vulnerable minority communities,” the statement said.

Rajnath’s comments violate international norms

Pakistan Senator Sherry Rehman on Monday called Rajnath Singh’s remarks “provocative, revisionist, and deeply irresponsible.” She warned that such rhetoric undermines regional stability and violates international norms governing state sovereignty.

“Such statements are not only factually baseless, but also reflect an alarming escalation of the expansionist Hindutva narrative within India, which has no place in responsible statecraft,” Senator Rehman said.

Absurd and utterly laughable

Surendar Valasai, spokesperson for Bilawal House and Member of the Sindh Assembly said Rajnath Singh’s recent remarks about Sindh are absurd and utterly laughable. He added that Pakistan’s 230 million people stand united in defending Sindh and the country as a whole.

In his statement, Surendar Valasai said that the Indian Defence Minister’s remarks are akin to the proverb “pale na dheela, kare mela mela”—meaning someone with nothing to show making grand claims. He added that after facing a humiliating defeat in the recent Pakistan–India war at the hands of the Pakistan Armed Forces, the Modi-led government has completely lost its senses.

The Pakistan Hindu Council has also strongly condemned the provocative remarks made by the Indian Defence Minister about Sindh.

In a statement, Patron-in-Chief Pakistan Hindu Council Dr Ramesh Kumar Vankwani said the patriotic Pakistani Hindu community considers Pakistan its motherland.

He described the remarks of Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh as irresponsible, provocative, childish, and foolish.
