ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has emerged as a more secure travel destination than India, the United States (US), and the United Kingdom (UK), proudly holding the 65th position with a safety score of 56.3.
India closely follows in 66th place, boasting a score of 55.7, while the United States lags behind at 89th, with a score of 50.8 in the 2025 Global Safety Index by Numbeo, a Serbia-based crowdsourced database that provides information about cost of living, housing, health care, traffic, crime, pollution, and other quality of life factors for cities and countries around the world.
The Safety rankings are based on the living standards and crime rates within each nation, revealing surprising insights about global safety.
At the pinnacle of this list, the picturesque Andorra—a quaint European enclave nestled between Spain and France—boasts the highest safety score of 84.7. Following closely behind are the United Arab Emirates (84.5), Qatar (84.2), Taiwan (82.9), and Oman (81.7), all celebrated for their robust security protocols and minimal crime rates.
Though Pakistan edged out India by a mere 0.6 points, the rankings reflect a close perception of security between the two nations. Nevertheless, Pakistan’s enhanced standing may indicate a shift in how both travellers and locals view safety within its borders.
Claiming the 65th position allows Pakistan edges ahead of India, the US, and even the UK, reinforcing a narrative of improving security conditions. This ranking hints at a burgeoning sense of safety for both residents and visitors.
In addition to the US and the UK, several powerhouse economies found themselves lower on the list than anticipated. Australia (82nd) and New Zealand (86th) also fell short of their usual reputations for safety. Despite its longstanding image as a secure European destination, France, ranked 110th with a score of 44.6.
At the other end of the scale, Venezuela is marked as the least safe nation, with a dire score of just 19.3, followed by Papua New Guinea (19.7), Haiti (21.1), Afghanistan (24.9), and South Africa (25.3).
Pakistan’s rise in the safety index reflects a positive shift in how the world views its security landscape. While challenges persist, this improved ranking could pave the way for increased tourism, investment, and business opportunities, ultimately fostering economic growth and enhancing Pakistan’s image on the global stage.
Numbeo’s index is based on user-contributed data and surveys, factoring in crime rates, including theft, robbery, harassment, and violent crimes. While the data provides a broad perspective on safety trends, the platform cautions that its findings reflect perceptions rather than official crime statistics.
