ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, is poised to come alive with athletic spirit as the Islamabad Marathon returns for its sixth edition on Sunday, January 25, solidifying its status as Pakistan’s premier and trendsetting road racing event.

The community-built marathon has evolved into a major international sporting fixture, attracting both local enthusiasts and runners from across the globe.

This year’s event promises an unforgettable experience with its signature fast and scenic route along Jinnah Avenue, offering participants a unique tour through the heart of the federal capital. The marathon is designed to celebrate fitness, unity, and the rapidly growing running culture in Pakistan, catering to everyone from elite competitors to first-time participants.

Key Event Information

Date & Edition: 25 January 2026 | 6th Edition

Route: The race will start and finish at the Bara Dari in F9 Park. The iconic course proceeds down 10th Avenue onto Jinnah Avenue, reaching D-Chowk before returning via Agha Shahi Avenue, Shaheen Chowk, and back onto Jinnah and 10th Avenue to the finish line. Detailed routes for all race categories are available on the official social media channels.

Registration & Tickets: Aspiring participants are urged to register promptly, as the ticket price will increase to PKR 5,000 starting January 23. No tickets will be sold on race day. The organisers have clarified that tickets purchased after January 13 are non-refundable and non-transferable. BIB collection details will be announced shortly.

Organised by a Pioneering Running Community

The Islamabad Marathon 2026 is orchestrated by Islamabad Run With Us (IRU), Pakistan’s pioneering and largest running community. Founded in 2016, IRU has been instrumental in fostering a running culture nationwide, having conducted over a thousand free community runs and organised international-standard endurance events.

IRU organiser Qasim Naz stated that the marathon has become one of Pakistan’s most prominent sporting competitions. This year, over 6,000 participants are expected, including ambassadors from various countries, alongside men, women, and children of all ages and backgrounds. Athletes from Pakistan, Asia, Europe, North Africa, America, Canada, and other regions will compete.

“The Islamabad Marathon now positions our city as a dynamic, welcoming, and capable host for international sporting events,” Naz said.

The top three male and female finishers in each category will receive cash prizes and trophies. Hydration and medical points will be available every 2.5 kilometers along the route for runner safety, with doctors and emergency staff on standby.

Naz emphasised that the core mission of the event is to inspire the nation’s youth towards healthy, active lifestyles. The district administration, Capital Development Authority (CDA), and Islamabad Traffic Police will provide full support to ensure the smooth execution of the race.

Multiple Races for All Levels

The event features races for every age and skill level, ensuring widespread participation:

  • Full Marathon & Half Marathon: Traversing 10th Avenue, Jinnah Avenue, and 9th Avenue.
  • 10 km Race: Covering 10th and Jinnah Avenue.
  • 5 km Race: A shorter route along the main avenues.
  • Kids Fun Run: A dedicated race within F9 Park for younger participants.
