ISLAMABAD: A man and his son fell into a gorge after the Bagrote Glacier burst that resulted in the death of the son, according to a spokesperson for Gilgit Baltistan (GB) government.

Local residents and Rescue 1122 teams were able to save the father.

In the Khunbari area of District Diamer, fresh floodwaters have caused widespread destruction, the spokesperson said. The floods have damaged standing crops, agricultural lands, and water channels.

Floodwaters continue to impact various parts of the province, according to the government spokesperson Faizullah Firaq.

Rescue operations

Faizullah Firaq said that the government has intensified rescue operations in flood-hit areas of GB.

He said that the recent flood current has damaged standing crops, land, and water channel in Khanbari area of Diamer.  He said that the government will take every step to provide aid to the flood affected people in the area.

The spokesperson said that the search and rescue operation to recover the missing tourists on the Babusar Highway in Gilgit is continuing for the 11th day.

Dawn.com reported that over 500 homes and agricultural land, crops, roads, bridges and both public and private infrastructure have been significantly damaged due to floods in GB.
