Lok Mela Celebrating Pakistan’s Rich Cultural Heritage

Lok Mela stands as a vibrant celebration of Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage, captivating visitors with its diverse traditions, crafts, music, and flavors. Organized by the Cultural and Heritage Division at Lok Virsa Islamabad, this 11-day extravaganza (from November 3 to 13) is a testament to Pakistan’s commitment to preserving and celebrating its cultural diversity.

The festival features an array of attractions, including provincial pavilions, shopping and food stalls, musical performances, arts and crafts demonstrations, and traditional skills displays. Renowned performers, including Sufi and folk artist Areeb Azhar, along with musicians from across Pakistan, enchant the audience with traditional and fusion music played on various instruments.

Visitors to the festival can enjoy the traditional Khyber Pakhtunkhwa tea, explore unique handicrafts and souvenirs, and immerse themselves in the art of traditional crafts such as pottery and stone carving. The festival highlights the traditional Balochi dish, Sajji, prepared with grilled meat, offering attendees a delightful culinary experience.

This year’s Lok Mela also reintroduces two enduring elements of the festival: Folk Theatre and Putli Tamasha. Folk Theatre, a traditional form of Pakistani theater featuring live music, dance, and storytelling, adds a touch of nostalgia to the event. Putli Tamasha, a popular form of puppet show in Pakistan, provides a delightful entertainment experience for festival-goers.
