Germany’s Foreign Minister in Delhi to Discuss Host of Issues

New Delhi: German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock reached Delhi to discuss a host of issues including India’s relations with China.

Relations between India and China have been strained after the Galwan valley incident where Chinese and Indian troops engaged in aggressive melee and skirmishes at locations along the Sino-Indian border, including near the disputed Pangong Lake in Ladakh and the Tibet Autonomous Region.

A press release issued by the German embassy in New Delhi, Baerbock, during the two-day visit, will discuss with her Indian counterpart, S Jaishankar India’s relations with China. The two foreign ministers will also discuss the Russia-Ukraine was and its implications on the energy sector.

The German foreign minister is visiting India against the background of the global implications of the Russia-Ukraine war.

Cooperation between Germany and India in the energy transition from oil, coal and gas to clean energy will also figure out during the discussion, according to a spokesman for the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin.

During the India visit, Baerbock will also undertake a visit to renewable energy projects in the rural areas around New Delhi.

The German foreign minister will meet representatives of civil society and non-governmental organisations working for the rights of women.
