Germany will Boost Border Controls with Czech Republic, Poland: Interior Minister

BERLIN: The German Interior Minister has said that Germany will boost border controls with Czech Republic and Poland to fight human trafficking, Western media reported on Tuesday.

Talking to broadcaster Deutschlandfunk, Interior Minister Nancy Faeser said Germany would establish stationary border controls with the Czech Republic and Poland. The Minister said that they would prepare stronger border controls to fight human traffickers in a better way.  However, Nancy Faeser did not provide details on when the new steps would be executed. As per media reports, the new controls will be officially announced on Wednesday.

German Chancellor Scholz also hinted that Germany could take measures to strengthen the border with Poland. As per media reports, Germany has also maintained fixed controls on the Bavarian border with Austria since 2015 after the European migrant crisis. The Then German Chancellor Angela Merkel, a conservative, was lauded for her policy at the time.
