ISLAMABAD: Germany said on Friday that it has issued authorization for Leopard 1 battle tanks to be sent to Kyiv, in a further boost for Ukraine.
Kyiv-Berlin
Earlier, Berlin said it would supply Ukraine with 14 Leopard 2s battle tanks from its military stocks, but manufacturers want to send the battle tanks they have in storage.
The German government spokesperson Steffen Hebestreit confirmed that an export license has been issued. However, he declined to give more information in this regard.
Last month, Germany finally agreed to send Leopard battle tanks to Kyiv, after weeks of sustained pressure from Ukraine and its European allies.
As per German law, Berlin has to approve the export of the battle tanks, even, in cases, when other states who bought them want to re-export them.
