TEL AVIV: German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock on Friday said that the military approach was not a solution to Israel’s war in the Gaza Strip.
“The past weekend has dramatically demonstrated that a purely military approach is no solution to the situation in Gaza,” she said while talking to reporters after meeting with her Israeli counterpart Israel Katz in Tel Aviv.
Baerbock was referring to the recovery of six more killed hostages announced on Sunday.
Their deaths have mounted domestic pressure on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to seal a peace deal with Hamas for a Gaza ceasefire and hostage exchange deal.
Baerbock on Friday called for a ceasefire now and also referred to the hawkish statements by Israeli officials about the West Bank, where the army on August 28 started a raid in multiple cities that has killed at least 36 people.
According to the Gaza health ministry Israel’s war on Gaza, now in its 336th day, has killed at least 40,878 Palestinians and injured over 94,454 others. Thousands more are believed to be buried under the debris of bombed structures.
