LUBECK: A circus in northern Germany has replaced live animals with hologram images, Western media reported on Sunday.

Germany’s Roncalli circus stopped using lions and elephants in its shows in 1991 due to concerns over animal safety. In 2018 they completely banned live animals from its shows.

Circus head Patrick Philadelphia told media that it is not suitable for Roncalli to show live animals in the ring. Over the last years, animal rights activists have been criticizing circuses for misuse of animals.

Philadelphia added that it is also very difficult to handle animals in small rings. He said that as children love animals in circus so hologram images are shown to amuse the audience.

Designing the 3D image was a technical challenge for animators due to the sitting arrangement of the audience.  During the show 11 cameras were used around the ring, showing high-resolution images.

Though live animals have their own thrill, the new technology is also expected to do something new.

Toni Munar, the technical director of the circus has said anything imagined can be created by an animator, by a graphic designer, then it can also be shown up in a circus program.
