BEIJING: German Chancellor Olaf Scholz met Chinese leader Xi Jinping on Tuesday, Chinese official media reported, on the last day of a three-day visit to Berlin’s major trading partner.
CCTV reported that on the morning of April 16, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with German leader Scholz at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing.
German Chancellor’s whistlestop trip has taken him to the southwestern megacity of Chongqing, the economic hub Shanghai and Beijing as he aims to shore up trade relations. Olaf Scholz has been accompanied by a large delegation of cabinet members and business executives on the trip — his second to China since taking office of German Chancellor.

He is also likely to meet with Chinese Premier Li Qiang today, and to sit down with a German-Chinese economic committee and also hold a press conference. Scholz’s visit comes as many of Germany’s Western partners confront China on a range of trade problems.
A slew of investigations into state aid for Chinese electric cars, solar panels, and wind turbines are going on in Brussels. Washington, meanwhile, is probing national security risks posed by Chinese technology in vehicles.
