Berlin: German arms maker Rheinmetall is building a military logistics and maintenance hub in Romania’s Satu Mare. The hub is expected to start operation in the current month to service weapons used for the conflict in Ukraine, the company stated on Sunday.

A company’s spokesperson said that the hub should play a central role in maintaining western combat systems’ operational readiness that are in use in Ukraine and thus ensue availability of logistical support.

The hub, which is located close to the border with Ukraine, will service self-propelled Leopard 2 and Challenger tanks, Marder infantry fighting vehicles, howitzers, Fuchs military trucks and armored transport vehicles, according to a Reuters report.

German arms maker set up a similar hub in Lithuania

Chief Executive Armin Papperger in a statement said that it is a major concern for us at Rheinmetall to be able to provide NATO and Ukraine’s forces with the best possible support.

In June last year, Rheinmetall set up a similar center in Lithuania to provide support to NATO vehicles in the Baltic states.
