ISLAMABAD: German ambassador to Pakistan Alfred Grannas called on Pakistan’s caretaker Federal Minister for Finance, Revenue, and Economic Affairs, Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, here in Islamabad on Wednesday. Finance Minister Dr. Shamshad Akhtar welcomed the envoy at the Finance Division. She appreciated the growing bilateral ties between Pakistan and Germany.
The minister said that Pakistan highly values its bilateral relations with Germany, including trade and economic ties.
The Finance Minister apprised the German diplomat about the economic reform agenda of the caretaker government, which aims to bring economic and fiscal stability to the country. She stated that the government has recently been successful in concluding the first review with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The fiscal and current account deficit has narrowed.
Dr. Shamshad Akhtar further informed the envoy on key reforms being undertaken by the interim government, including privatization, SOEs, forex exchange regime, and reforms in FBR. The Finance Minister said that the caretaker government wanted to hand over a stable economy to the incoming government, which can continue the economic policies for the ultimate good of the people.
Envoy for enhanced relations with Pakistan
Alfred Grannas shared sentiments of gratitude with the finance minister for offering cooperation and support to enhance and strengthen bilateral ties. He also acknowledged the reform agenda of the government and assured full support to Pakistan in achieving fiscal sustainability.
