General Elections 2024: PPP Declares Bilawal Bhutto as PM Candidate for Party

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has nominated its Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari as party’s key candidate for the position of prime minister in the approaching general elections scheduled for February 8, PPP announced on its social media handle.

The announcement came after the meeting of PPP’s highest decision-making section — the Central Executive Committee (CEC) — which sat at Bilawal House in Lahore on Wednesday (Jan 03, 2023) to dilate upon the party’s plan for the impending general election.

Bilawal, who is also contesting from NA-127 Lahore, where he would contend against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) female local leader Shaista Pervaiz Malik and a PTI-backed candidate.

The PPP’s CEC sitting also deliberated on the party election manifesto and framework, which determined to give preference to youth and job creation, women empowerment, and on social sector like health and education.

It also declared total backing on the leadership and guidance of Asif Ali Zardari and his son Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

Key PPP leaders including Syed Khursheed Shah, Secretary General Taj Haider, Qamar Zaman Kaira, Rana Farooq Saeed Khan, Chaudhry Aslam Gill, Murad Ali Shah, Ali Badr and Samina Khalid Ghurki, were joined in the session.

Later, speaking to the media, Bilawal stated that he had decided to take part in the election from Lahore too, whether anybody is pleased on it or not.

Flanked by former prime minister Yusuf Raza Gilani and PPP Secretary General Taj Haider, Bilawal stated, “Gen Zia imposed the PML-N on us (PPP) and Gen Faiz Hameed imposed the PTI.”

He said both the opponent of PPP, the PML-N and PTI were representative of the ruling elite. Both remained to resolve the main issues confronted by the country and the masses. He said the PPP was the only political party that always brought its own vision and manifesto before general polls and in that it kept people on top priority.

He said the PPP govt is planning to establish energy parks in each district headquarters and would supply free electricity up to 300 units small consumers.

He also assured that PPP would provide free and excellent education to people after coming into the government. He said the pays of small employees would be enhanced by 200% at least and the BISP system would be extended.

Bilawal thanked the PPP CEC for proposing his name as the contender for the slot of premier.

He also condemned the occurrence of terrorism attacks in the country in recent days, saying that to bring the country out of waters, crucial decisions must be taken.
