RIYADH: Secretary General of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi has welcomed the UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza during Ramadan, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Monday.
The resolution aims to achieve a sustainable and permanent ceasefire, secure the release of all hostages, ensure all parties compliance with their obligations under international law, and expand the flow of humanitarian assistance to civilians in the Gaza Strip, said the GCC statement.
Albudaiwi expressed his hope that this resolution will help end the suffering of the people of Gaza and contribute to stopping the escalation and targeting of Palestinian and their forced displacement.
According to the statement, Albudaiwi stressed the need for the global community to assume its responsibility in dealing with the Gaza crisis with unified standards and provide global protection for the brotherly people of Palestine, while holding Israel responsible for its ongoing attacks that have killed tens of thousands of civilians in the Gaza Strip, most of them women and children.
Albudaiwi asked the Israeli occupation forces to immediately comply with the resolution and adhere to United Nations resolutions and international humanitarian law, while immediately stopping targeting civilians in Gaza and humanitarian institutions and infrastructure, including schools, hospitals and shelters.
He stressed the urgent need to find a comprehensive and lasting solution to the cause of Palestine, end the ongoing suffering, and give the Palestinian people hope and the ability to achieve their basic rights to live in security and self-determination.
Albudaiwi said that Palestinian should be enabled to establish their Palestinian state within the 1967 borders and with east Jerusalem as the capital, in accordance with the international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
