GAZA: The death toll in Gaza has topped 31,112 since October 7 last year, as Israel continues its relentless assault on the besieged territory, with at least 67 Palestinians killed and 106 others injured in the past 24 hours alone, the territory’s Health Ministry reported on Monday.
The ministry reported that seven massacres targeting families have occurred during this period, resulting in a disproportionate number of women and children among the casualties, with 72% of victims being women and children.
Tragically, the toll of casualties is not limited to direct violence, as 25 persons have also succumbed to malnutrition and dehydration, highlighting the dire humanitarian crisis exacerbated by the prolonged conflict.
Israeli Violence Displaces 85% of Gaza Population
The ongoing offensive, which has continued since October 7, 2023, has forced 85% of Gaza’s population into internal displacement, further exacerbating acute shortages of essential resources such as food, clean water, and medicine. Additionally, much of the enclave’s already fragile infrastructure has been severely damaged or completely destroyed, exacerbating the suffering of civilians.
Amid mounting international scrutiny, Israel faces accusations of genocide at the International Court of Justice, with an interim ruling issued in January calling for an immediate cessation of genocidal acts and urging measures to ensure the provision of humanitarian assistance to civilians in Gaza.
As the holy month of Ramadan begins, Palestinians in Gaza continue to endure unimaginable hardship and suffering, underscoring the urgent need for a cessation of hostilities and concerted international efforts to address the humanitarian crisis gripping the region.
