GAZA CITY: The health ministry in Gaza on Saturday said that at least 42,924, Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed in the ongoing Israeli bombardment campaign since October 7, 2023.

The death toll includes 77 deaths in the past 48 hours, according to the health ministry, which said 100,833 people have been injured in the Gaza Strip since October 7 last year.

World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has said that the situation in northern Gaza is “catastrophic.” He highlighted the “intensive military operations unfolding around and within healthcare facilities,” warning of a dire shortage of medical supplies.

“A critical shortage of medical supplies, compounded by severely limited access, are depriving people of life-saving care,” he stated on social media.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military withdrew from a hospital complex in northern Gaza after a brief but intense incursion. The health ministry reported that Israeli forces had detained dozens of male medical staff and some patients during their operation.

Footage circulated by the ministry showed significant damage to several hospital buildings after the military’s withdrawal.

Reports indicate that at least 44 out of the 70-member medical team at the Kamal Adwan Hospital were detained during the raid. While the Israeli army later released 14 of the detained staff members, including the hospital’s director, concerns remain high about the impact of these operations on healthcare delivery in the region.
