LAHORE: Gary Kirsten is gearing up to kickstart his tenure as the white-ball head coach for Pakistan’s national men’s cricket team, with his official start date set for May 19 in Leeds.

His arrival comes just before the four-match T20I series against England starting on May 22 at Headingley, serving as a lead-up to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. Pakistan’s first match in the tournament is against the hosts in Dallas on June 6. The seasoned 56-year-old coach expressed his eagerness to contribute to the team’s success and acknowledged the exciting times for Pakistan cricket, highlighting the team’s ambition and the upcoming T20 World Cup.

He emphasized the importance of collective effort and meticulous planning for achieving success in the face of stiff competition. Joining him in the coaching staff are Simon Helmot as the fielding coach and David Reid as the mental performance coach.

Their appointments come following recommendations from the team management, with Reid joining on May 20 and Helmot on May 31, just before the T20 World Cup. Aftab Khan will transition to the role of High-Performance Coach for the tournament.
