G7 Denounces North Korea’s Space Launch

WASHINGTON: The G7 nations have denounced “in the strongest terms” North Korean space launch, saying it poses a “major threat” to stability and peace. They expressed these remarks in a joint statement issued by G7 and the EU foreign policy chief on Thursday. The joint statement stated, “This launch is a clear violation of UNSC resolutions and also poses a threat to regional and global stability,”.

G7 Denounces North Korea’s Space Launch

North Korea had conducted the 2nd launch of a space satellite, which ended in failure because of an error in the rocket’s ” blasting system” during the stage of flight, state media reported.

Recalling North Korea’s “Escalatory acts” via a record number of missile launches despite the repeated calls from the world, the statement stated that these acts prove North Korea’s resolve to advance and expand its nuclear and missile capabilities.

The statement said, “We reiterate our call that N Korea abandon its nuclear arms, nuclear programmes, and any other arms of mass destruction in a complete and irreversible manner and completely comply with all responsibilities as per the relevant UNSC resolutions.”

G7 countries foreign ministers said that North Korea’s act “must be met with a rapid, joint, and strong global reply,” especially by the UNSC.

The G7 nations reiterated their promise to working with relevant partners toward the goal of stability and peace on the Korean Peninsula.
