Funeral Prayers in Absentia for Ismail Haniyeh Offered in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Jamat-e-Islami Pakistan and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) on Wednesday held separately the funeral prayers in absentia for Ismail Haniyeh in Pakistan.

Hamas Chief was martyred in Iran while attending the oath-taking of newly elected President Masoud Pezeshkian.

Pakistani religious parties have also called for nationwide protests against the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, with a major demonstration planned for Friday, August 2.

Emir Jamat-e-Islami Pakistan Hafiz Naeemur Rehman led the funeral prayer of the Hamas chief in Rawalpindi. Earlier, in a post on X, the JI Chief condemned the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh and said that the Hamas chief had fought the cruellest power on earth.

Naeem said Ismail Haniyeh, the lion of Allah, had succeeded and made his way towards paradise.  The JI emir said Israel and its guardians would pay the price for this cruelty.

Meanwhile Addressing a press conference in Quetta, JUI-F provincial chief Maulana Abdul Wasay, along with other leaders, strongly condemned the ongoing atrocities against Palestinians. He said that Palestinians have been facing oppression for the past year, with thousands being killed by Israel. He accused the US of leading the aggression against the people of Palestine.

He condemned the lack of international support for Palestine, despite widespread protests against the aggression. He highlighted JUI-F’s active role in condemning Israel’s actions and organizing countrywide campaigns against them.

He added that Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the JUI-F leader, had visited Palestine and met with Ismail Haniyeh, representing Pakistan during his visit. He strongly condemned the assassination of Haniyeh, describing him as a political leader who advocated for negotiations.

Meanwhile, a funeral prayer in absentia was held for Ismail Haniyeh on Karachi’s New M.A. Jinnah Road, with a large crowd participating. The attendees chanted slogans against Israel.

The Palestine Foundation organized a protest at Karachi’s Fawara Chowk, with a rally by Palestine Foundation Pakistan leader Dr Sabir Abu Maryam.
