GILGIT, Pakistan: Beginning with an emergency report to the fire station at the control tower about a fire on board a plane on the runway, a full-scale emergency exercise was carried out at the Gilgit Airport on Monday.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) spokesperson, all stakeholders, including CAA, Red Crescent, Rescue 1122, Airport Security Force, Pakistan International Airlines, City Fire Bridge, local police and Key Point Police participated in the full-scale emergency exercise.
The CAA fire tenders and medical ambulance reached the site in time and controlled the fire, besides rescuing the injured.
The ASF personnel cordoned off the airside area while the police erected the security fence. Soon, the Red Crescent ambulances and City Fire Services teams from outside the airport also reached the scene.
The CAA, PIA and Red Crescent set up a public information counter in the concourse hall at the airport. All stakeholders played their part as per the Crisis and Emergency Response Plan and protocols.
According to the airport manager, these exercises keep them ready to deal with any untoward situation.
