MANILA, Philippine: Alice Leal Guo, a fugitive former mayor from the Philippines accused of human trafficking and connections to Chinese organized crime, has been arrested in Indonesia.

Guo, the former mayor of Bamban, was linked to a Chinese-run online gambling operation where individuals were allegedly forced to participate in scams under threat of torture. She is also accused of fraudulently posing as a Filipino citizen to run for office.

Indonesian police apprehended Guo in Jakarta after identifying her as an illegal alien due to discrepancies in her nationality.

The Philippine Department of Justice has requested her extradition, with Philippine authorities working closely with their Indonesian counterparts to expedite her return. Guo faces multiple charges, including graft, money laundering, and human trafficking.

Philippine Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla praised the arrest, highlighting the importance of international cooperation in law enforcement. President Ferdinand Marcos also thanked Indonesia for its assistance, emphasizing that evading justice is futile.
