ISLAMABAD: Saudi Arabia and nuclear-armed Pakistan signed a formal mutual defence pact on Wednesday in a significant geopolitical development.
On 17 September 2025, Islamabad and Riyadh signed a “Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement” declaring that “any aggression against either country shall be considered an aggression against both” — a bilateral pledge whose timing and implications reverberate across the Middle East and South Asia
The pact, which has garnered widespread attention on social media, is seen as a strategic move aimed at bolstering regional security and enhancing bilateral military cooperation.
Saudi Arabia’s Defence Minister Khalid bin Salman expressed confidence in the agreement, stating that the two countries are united “as one front against any aggressor,” promising mutual support in the face of external threats.

His statement was quickly shared by many Pakistani social media users, with comments flooding in to express unwavering support for the pact.
One Pakistani user, echoing a sentiment of national pride and solidarity, replied to Khalid bin Salman’s post, saying: “Sir, we have an army that would get their chests riddled with bullets to save the life of a fellow soldier. For the protection of every nook and cranny of the sacred land, we have an army of 240 million, Insha’Allah… We are confident that neither this Pakistan nor Saudi Arabia can be harmed; Insha’Allah.”

This outpouring of support is not isolated. Another Saudi Arabian user tweeted, “Not just allies, but guarantors.”

Many believe the pact will serve as a security pillar, not just between the two nations, but for the broader Muslim world.
Others celebrated the formalisation of the agreement, with one user calling it “the biggest deal of this year” and extending congratulations to both Pakistan and the Muslim Ummah.
“Heartiest congratulations to the entire Pakistani nation and the Muslim Ummah,” the tweet read. “A historic welcome and agreements between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan!”

Meanwhile, another user highlighted the strategic importance of the defence agreement, especially in safeguarding Islamic holy sites. “The result of the Army Chief’s strong strategy in the war,” the tweet noted.
“Under the historical defense agreement between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, both countries have become partners in the protection of the Holy Sanctuaries. Any external attack will be considered an attack on both, and for defense, both will become each other’s strength.”
