RIYADH: Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz Bin Salman said that Saudi Arabia is now positioned as a diversified energy producer, transcending its historical role as solely an oil producer.

In his keynote speech at the third edition of the Future Minerals Forum, titled “Energy Transitions in the Kingdom,” held in Riyadh on Wednesday, Prince Abdulaziz highlighted the country’s transition into a leading exporter of various energy types.

“We are no longer being classified only as an oil-producing country. Our tag now is that we would like to be an energy-producing country of all sorts of energy, and hence our task is to prove it,” he stated.

The minister underscored Saudi Arabia’s commitment to responsible energy production, citing investments in initiatives that contribute to a smooth transition to green energy within the Kingdom.

“We are investing in everything that contributes to an appropriate transition to green energy in the Kingdom, and two initiatives have been put forward to transition to green energy,” Prince Abdulaziz explained.

He also emphasized the seriousness with which Saudi Arabia addresses climate change issues.

According to Prince Abdulaziz, Saudi Arabia and the UAE are taking a lead in responsible energy production, aiming to meet energy efficiency standards comparable to the United States and the European Union by 2030.

“We hope to have a market for carbon, and hopefully it will be a regional market,” he added.
