WASHINGTON: The United States (US) on Friday issued fresh sanctions targeting suppliers of Iranian drones that the US claimed have been used to attack civilian infrastructure in Ukraine during the war with Russia.
The US Treasury Department said it imposed sanctions on 6 executives and board members of Light Airplanes Design and Manufacturing Industries also known as Qods Aviation Industries (QAI).
United States, Russia, and Iran
The US described Qods Aviation Industries as the main defense manufacturer of Iran responsible for the production of drones. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said that they will continue to use every tool at their disposal to deprive President Putin the arms that he (Putin) is using to wage his unprovoked war on Ukraine.
The US Treasury Department also imposed ban on the director of Iran’s Aerospace Industries Organization, which the Treasury Department claimed is the key organization responsible for overseeing Tehran’s ballistic missile programs.
Earlier, the US had imposed sanctions on companies and persons it accused of producing Iranian drones that Moscow had used to target civilian infrastructure in Ukraine. Russia had denied its troops used Iranian drones in Ukraine.
