ISLAMABAD: The situation in Islamabad is again tense as clashes erupted on Wednesday between workers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf and law enforcers on the Srinagar Highway.
PTI workers in convoys continued to pour in from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and they seemed to take control of the Srinagar Highway after clashes with the police, which retreated after PTI workers pelted them with stones.
Protests against the arrest of PTI Chairman Imran Khan continued across the country on the second day on Wednesday.
Administrations have closed down metro service stations in several cities including in Islamabad and Lahore.
The police crackdown continues on elements who resorted to violence after the arrest of Imran Khan. The protests are under way in various cities of Punjab, Sindh and Khyber-Pakhtunkwa.
At the same time, the Punjab government has imposed Section 144 across the province to control the deteriorating law and order situation, under which all kinds of political processions and protests have been banned. More than 900 PTI workers have been arrested across the province.
Mobile data services across the country were shut while Twitter, YouTube and Facebook were disrupted.
