PARIS: French President Emmanuel Macron will visit Africa this week in a bid to counter Moscow efforts to dislodge Paris from the continent, after France suffered a series of political and military setbacks in its former domain of influence, Reuters reported on Monday.
Ahead of the visit on Monday evening, the French President is expected to spell out his fresh African policy in a press conference and a speech at the Elysee palace.
French President’s visit to Africa
The trip comes just over a week following Burkina Faso booted out French forces and ended a military agreement that permitted Paris to fight insurgents in the West African country, becoming the latest country in Africa to reject France’s help.
Similarly, Paris withdrew its troops from Mali in 2022 following the junta in the African country started working with Moscow, ending a decade of offensive against insurgents in the region.
