French President says “Loss and Damage Fund” to Deal with Climate Change Insufficient

DJERBA: French President Emmanuel Macron said on Saturday that the formation of a single loss-and-damage fund to provide assistance to the developing world to deal with the impact of climate change is insufficient.

The remarks of the French President came as delegations signed an agreement at COP27 UN climate summit at Sharm El-Sheikh.

As many as two hundred countries’ representatives have attended at Cop27 at Sharm El-Sheikh with the objective to fight issue of climate change as the glob confronts with the serious problem. The summit adopted a final agreement at the COP27 climate summit today that established a fund to assist developing countries being suffered by climate change, however, the agreement does not support efforts to block the emissions causing these countries.

French President’s remarks on fund

He told the media in Djerba that the idea of a one fund is completely insufficient and inappropriate. He questioned what is the mechanism for the formation of a fund to deal with the issue of climate change? He asked who will pay the money? He is talking to journalist in Djerba, where he is taking part in a summit of French-speaking states. — APP
