LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz has expanded the availability of free Wi-Fi services throughout the province.
According to a spokesperson for the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA), the free Wi-Fi initiative has been launched at 230 locations across Lahore, Kasur, Nankana Sahib, and Sheikhupura. Specifically, the service is offered at 200 sites in Lahore, 10 in Kasur, 15 in Sheikhupura, and five in Nankana Sahib.
In just three months, approximately 7.7 million users have accessed 111 TB of data through this service. The spokesperson noted that the free internet service is helping citizens with education, business, and social communication.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to transform Punjab into a digital province, with free Wi-Fi being a key component. This service aims to make life easier for residents.

Initially, the service began in Lahore with 50 locations as part of a pilot project. The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had previously introduced free Wi-Fi in Lahore and other cities during its tenure in 2013, but the service was discontinued by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government. The responsibility for managing the free service has been entrusted to the provincial technology board, PITB.
