PESHAWAR: The Elementary and Secondary Education Department, in a recently issued notification, has announced the provision of free textbooks for the academic year 2024-25, covering classes from nursery to 12.
According to the notification, 100 free textbooks will be provided for classes nursery to 03, with 80% coverage for classes 04 to 05, and the remaining 20% sourced from existing textbooks. Similarly, for classes 06 to 12, 50% of the textbooks will be published, and the remaining 50% will be managed from existing textbooks.
The department has urged school heads to collect old books from students before the final results are announced.
Additionally, an awareness campaign is recommended to emphasize the preservation of national resources and the importance of books, offering incentives such as certificates and medals.
Looking ahead, the department suggests exploring the possibility of utilizing soft copies of textbooks through personal, registered cell phones or on tablets and laptops for the academic year 2025-26. Collaboration with parents’ teacher’s council is encouraged in this regard. —APP
