SYDNEY: A lot of people gathered in Sydney’s Hyde Park on Saturday in a pro-Palestinian rally.

People chanted slogans such as “Free Palestine,” among other such slogans, and waved Palestinian flags.

Similar demonstrations have been taking place in major cities worldwide since the beginning of the conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.

The conflict started after the Hamas blew through Israel’s highly fortified separation wall on October 7, and attacked an open-air music festival and Israeli border communities, resulting in casualties and abductions.

Israel launched airstrikes on the Gaza Strip and imposed a blockade on the area.

The conflict is the deadliest of five Gaza wars with more than 9,200 Palestinians have been killed, mostly women and children, the Gaza Health Ministry said on Tuesday, without providing a breakdown between civilians and fighters.

The figure is without precedent in years of Israeli-Palestinian violence.

More than 1,400 people have died on the Israeli side during Hamas’ initial attack on October 7.
