LONDON: France, Germany, Britain and the United States have condemned Iran’s increase in production of highly enriched uranium after the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) report earlier this week.
The spokespersons for the countries in a joint statement on Thursday called upon Iran to immediately reverse these steps and de-escalate its nuclear programme.
The statement said they are committed to a diplomatic solution and reaffirm determination that Iran must not develop a nuclear weapon.
Earlier, the IAEA in its report said that Iran had increased its production of highly enriched uranium. The UN nuclear watchdog said that Iran has reversed a months-long slowdown in the rate at which it is enriching uranium to up to 60% purity.
Meanwhile, Iran’s nuclear chief has said that the country’s nuclear activities were being carried out within the framework and regulations of the IAEA.
Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Mohammad Eslami while responding to the IAEA report said that the other side was trying to divert public attention from Israel’s war on Gaza toward Iran.
He added that Iran is not doing anything new, and it is our routine activity that is being carried out according to the framework and regulations.
