PARIS: France has denounced Israel’s expulsion of French-Palestinian lawyer Salah Hamouri, who had been detained in Israel without charge since March, western media reported on Sunday. Salah Hamouri arrived in Paris today, where he was received by his wife, NGO representatives, politicians, and supporters at the airport.

The French foreign ministry condemned Israel’s actions against the law to expel Hamouri to France. It added that France would ensure Hamouri’s rights to lead a normal life in his home town Jerusalem. The French Ministry further added that Paris also took several measures to clearly communicate to Israel its opposition to the expulsion of Hamouri of East Jerusalem, an occupied territory under the Geneva Convention.
The supporters of Hamouri said that his expulsion from his birthplace by an “occupying power” is illegal.

On his arrival, the supporter of Hamouri unfurled banners saying “Welcome Salah,” and many carried Palestinian flags at the airport. Amnesty International’s France chief also reacted over the matter and said that it is a happy day for a family but for the Palestinian people, it is a sad day. He described the deportation as a “crime of apartheid.” – AFP/APP
