France, Bangladesh Ink Deal on Loans, Technology

DHAKA: France and Bangladesh have signed an agreement to facilitate loans for infrastructure development and to provide Dhaka with an earth observation satellite technology, reported Western media on Monday.

Macron in Bangladesh to boost bilateral ties

President Emmanuel Macron was also present on the occasion. He is currently on a two-day visit to Bangladesh where held a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to enhance bilateral ties between the two countries.

Bangladesh’s Economic Relations Division signed the contract with the French Development Agency. A letter of intent was also signed to provide Bangladesh with an earth observation satellite technology.

Bangladesh procured its first broadcasting satellite, named Bangabandhu Satellite-1 and launched in 2018, from France.

France is Bangladesh’s fifth-largest trading partner in the areas of engineering, energy, aerospace and water sectors.

Prime Minister Hasina has said that the new strategic move between Bangladesh and France will play a vital role in setting up regional and global peace and stability.

Hasina said both leaders have agreed to work closely to ensure stability in the Asia-Pacific region as well as on projects of climate change.

Bangladesh has long been purchasing aircrafts from the American Boeing company, but recently, the government has inked an agreement with Airbus of France.
