ISLAMABAD: The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has filed a petition in the Supreme Court for a forensic audit of Independent Power Producers (IPPs).
The FPCCI has requested the court to order the recovery of excess profits paid to these IPPs.
The petition also calls for a court directive to amend the agreements with IPPs to ensure payments are based on the actual electricity supplied.
Furthermore, the FPCCI is asking the court to nullify the policies related to IPPs from the years 1994, 2002, and 2015.
The FPCCI argues that the government should not profit from essential services such as electricity.
Former caretaker minister Gohar Ejaz has previously urged the government to make payments to IPPs based solely on their power generation. “We demand that payments to IPPs be proportional to the amount of power they produce,” he stated.
Ejaz mentioned that they have prepared a petition and plan to submit it to the Supreme Court, emphasizing that a forensic audit will clarify the situation.
