ISLAMABAD: Four suspected monkeypox patients who were being shifted from Islamabad International Airport to PIMS Hospital escaped on Saturday due to negligence of the Border Health Services Staff.
According to media reports, the suspected who had been deported from Libya, reached Islamabad Airport and disappeared from the ambulance which was carrying them to the hospital.
Reports further revealed that the suspected Pakistani patients were sent back to their country via a special flight that reached Islamabad Airport on the night of September 8. After their arrival, the medical staff traced monkeypox symptoms in the suspected patients during the screening, followed by their separation from other passengers. They were identified as Rehman Tariq, Zulqarnain, Ali Hamza and Naeem.
Concerns Over Disappearance of Monkeypox Suspects
During the shift towards the hospital, the suspected patients disappeared from the ambulance, along with their medical files prepared by the staff at the airport. The Border Health Services officials were still unable to respond to the grave negligence. The incident concerns health officials and the public as the disease might be spread further if the patients were not traced and isolated from the masses.
