MOSCOW: At least four persons were killed and several others wounded in an explosion at a gunpowder factory in Russia on Tuesday.
The gunpowder plant located in the Tambov area southeast of the capital city of Moscow issued a statement saying that the incident occurred during assembly work involving a contractor, AFP said.
Tambov Gunpowder Plant said that 12 people were wounded and four of them died. Most of the victims were the contractor’s employees.
The plant added that it was looking into the causes behind the explosion, and “the human factor” played a big role.
Maxim Yegorov, Tambov governor, ruled out any possibility of a terror attack.
The Investigative Committee, which investigates major crimes, said that it started a probe into violation of safety rules.
Drone strikes on Russian installations
Since President Vladimir Putin sent forces to Ukraine in February last year, Russia has been on high alert, and there have been many drone strikes on installations deep inside its territory.
