ALIGARH: Indian law enforcement filed charges against four students from Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) for organizing a protest march on the campus, expressing solidarity with Palestinians during the ongoing Israeli conflict in Gaza.
As per information from Kashmir Media Service, the students conducted the protest march from Duck Point to Babey Sir Syed Gate within the AMU campus.
In a statement, SP City R Shekhar Pathak mentioned that the police have registered a case involving multiple students, with four individuals specifically named. These students have been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
The FIR identifies Aatif, Khalid, Kaamran, and Naved Chaudhry as the four students named in the case, as stated by Pathak.
The police allege that the protestors did not obtain prior permission for their march, and the FIR accuses the students of supporting a “terrorist group.”
Satish Gautam, the BJP MP representing Aligarh, issued a statement, urging both the police and the acting Vice Chancellor of AMU to take strong action against the protesters.
