ISLAMABAD: Prosecutors in Japan on Wednesday arrested a former senior Tokyo Olympics official and 3 businessmen over alleged bid-rigging in the Games, the latest development in a growing corruption scandal.

Tokyo prosecutors said in a statement that they detained Yasuo Mori, 55, a senior Tokyo 2020 organizing committee official, accused of breaching the anti-monopoly law.

They also arrested Koji Henmi, an official at advertising giant Dentsu, Yoshiji Kamata of events operator Cerespo, and Masahiko Fujino of television production and sales company Fuji Creative Corp.

Local media published images of police raiding the home of Mori, who organized test events for the COVID-19-postponed Summer Games in 2021.

Accused limited tender contracts for Olympics events

The four are accused of limited tender contracts for Olympic events and rigging a series of supposedly open competitive bids and, reportedly valued at 40 billion yen (305 million US dollar), local media said.

Prosecutors said that the allegations concern preparation for test events between February and July 2018.
