LONDON: Tariq Mehmoodul Hasan, a prominent leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former special assistant to the prime minister on overseas Pakistani affairs during Imran Khan’s tenure, announced his departure from the party on Sunday.
His decision comes in the aftermath of the violent protests that took place on May 9, which he believes have deeply impacted the nation. Hasan expressed his hope for the nation to emerge stronger from the crisis.
In a statement, Hasan paid tribute to the Pakistan Army and pledged to continue his work for overseas Pakistanis.
Former MPA Malik Khurram Ali Leaves PTI
Another former PTI Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA), Malik Khurram Ali, also bid farewell to the PTI, citing the incidents of May 9 as the reason for his departure.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, he condemned the violent protests and expressed his disillusionment with the PTI, stating that it was no longer the party he had initially joined. Despite leaving the PTI, Malik stated that he would remain engaged in politics within his constituency.
The recent resignations come in the wake of the departure of former Punjab home minister Col Hashim Dogar and other PTI lawmakers, who also left the party due to the May 9 violence. During a press conference in Islamabad, Col Hashim Dogar stated that it was difficult for him and his associates to align with the PTI’s narrative, leading them to part ways with the party.
The May 9 protests witnessed attacks on military installations, including the Corps Commander House, prompting concerns about security and stability.
