LAHORE: The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) Punjab on Wednesday arrested former Punjab governor Omar Sarfraz Cheema during a raid at his residence in Lahore.
According to ACE officials, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader was taken into custody from his house early in the morning.
Cheema has been accused of using powers as the governor and allegedly giving his sister a share by forging the family registration certificate.
According to the PTI, ‘unknown’ men in plain clothes took Omar Cheema into custody. The family added that they were not informed about the charges before arresting Cheema.
Protests erupted across Pakistan following the arrest of former prime minister and PTI chief Imran Khan from the premises of the Islamabad High Court, where he was present to seek bail in two cases.
Several PTI leaders and workers have been booked and arrested over vandalism during the protests after the arrest of the former prime minister.
