WELLINGTON: New Zealand’s former prime minister Jacinda Ardern has said that she was taking up two fellowships at Harvard University later in 2023.

Jacinda stepped down as prime minister in January, saying she had “no more in the tank” to lead the country and would also not seek re-election to parliament.

Harvard University said she had been appointed to dual fellowships at Harvard Kennedy School and a concurrent company at the Berkman Klein Centre.

“I’m incredibly humbled to be joining Harvard University as a fellow. Not only will it allow me to share my experience with others, but it’ll also give me a chance to learn,” Jacinda said.

She added on Instagram that the fellowship at the Berkman Klein Center wouldn’t only be a chance to work collaboratively with the centre’s research community and work on the challenges around the growth of generative AI tools.

Jacinda has previously said she’ll continue to help tackle violent extremism online as an unpaid special envoy for the Christchurch Call. The Call is the initiative she co-founded in 2019 to unite countries and technology companies to combat extremism.

Jacinda Ardern is to join the board of Prince William’s Earthshot Prize, awarded for environmental contributions.
