Foreign Observers Show Great Interest in Azerbaijan’s Presidential Election

BAKU: A large number of foreign observers from the OSCE, the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), have shown significant interest in monitoring the electoral process, the Secretary-General of the CIS, head of the observer mission from the CIS Sergey Lebedev told reporters, Trend reports.

Lebedev highlighted the extensive presence of foreign observers in Azerbaijan, emphasizing the country’s importance within the CIS and its active participation in economic and humanitarian interactions. He expressed optimism regarding the friendly and neighborly relations between CIS countries and underscored the collective interest in maintaining peace and stability in the region.

The CIS observer mission, comprising representatives from various member states, has been operational in Azerbaijan since January 17, focusing on ensuring transparency and fairness throughout the election process. Lebedev commended Azerbaijan’s constructive participation in the CIS, particularly in addressing common issues and fostering cooperation among member states.

Foreign Observers Laud Arrangements for Azerbaijan Presidential Election

Providing insights into the electoral arrangements, Lebedev noted the adoption of positive changes in Azerbaijan’s electoral legislation and highlighted the competitive nature of the election, with seven candidates vying for the presidency. He emphasized the equal opportunities provided to all candidates during the campaign, including access to media coverage and platforms for presenting their programs and positions.

With voting underway across the country, Lebedev praised the organized conduct of the election and the high voter turnout, interpreting it as a manifestation of citizens’ interest and commitment to upholding peace and stability in Azerbaijan.

The ongoing election marks a historic moment for Azerbaijan, as it encompasses the entire territory of the country, including areas liberated from Armenian occupation in 2020. Additionally, polling stations have been established in embassies and consulates abroad, enabling Azerbaijani citizens residing overseas to participate in the electoral process.
