BERLIN: The German football club Mainz 05 has announced to terminate the contract of Anwar El Ghazi over social media posts about the Israeli-Palestinian war, Arab media reported on Friday.
In a statement the club stated that El Ghazi’s contact had been ended due to “remarks and posts from the footballer on social media” without giving more information.
Anwar El Ghazi was earlier suspended by the German club over a since-deleted comments about the war in Gaza, but was permitted to return to practice this week, Al Jazeera reported.

Following his termination, the player tweeted, “Stand for what is right, even if it means standing alone,”.
He wrote, “The loss of my income is nothing when compared to the hell being unleashed on the vulnerable and innocent in Gaza,”.
Anwar El Ghazi said that he did not express regret his position. He said “I do not distance myself from what I stated and I stand, today and always until my last breath, for the oppressed and humanity.”
The Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza said that 13 people have been killed and 26 others wounded in a ‘massacre’ following an Israeli airstrike targeted ambulances at Al Shifa Hospital in Gaza City.

The death toll in the Gaza Strip from the ongoing Israeli attacks has risen to 9,227, including 3,826 children and 2,405 women, the Health Ministry in Gaza reported on Friday. Ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra, speaking at a news conference in Gaza City, disclosed that an additional 23,516 people had been injured, with 2,100 still trapped under the rubble, including 1,200 children.
